The Law
On July 1, 2024, Tennessee passed the ELVIS Act. It is the strongest law in the world for protecting your voice from deepfakes.
Why it Changed the Game
Before this law, it was hard to stop AI from copying your voice. Laws protected your “Name and Likeness,” but voice was a grey area. This was a loophole for AI clones.
The ELVIS Act closed that loophole. It says your Voice is now real property. If someone makes an AI clone of your voice without permission, you can sue them.
Protection Outside Tennessee
The best part? You don’t have to live in Tennessee to use it. The law tries to protect anyone with a connection to the state.
What You Should Do
If you are a singer, podcaster, or speaker, you need to get a connection to Tennessee. You don’t have to move there. You can form a Tennessee LLC to hold your voice rights, or register a Tennessee Trademark. This helps you claim protection under this powerful law.
